Sébastien Panis

Sébastien Panis woodcarver in Vendée, France

Born in 1980, Sébastien lives and works in Fontenay le Comte in Vendée, a quiet and peaceful place essential for creation.

After studying wood carving from 1996 to 1998, Sébastien works in different companies making classic and contemporary furniture.

In 2005, after meeting a wood turner, Sébastien discovers the technique, the tool, by which the creation is going to take shape: woodturning.

As a self-taught artist, Sébastien experiments, tries various techniques and different approaches. Soon, he wants to carve to pieces that come out of the wood turning lathe and so, he discovers a new way to express his talent.

After opening his cabinet making workshop in 2009, Sébastien spends most of his time creating contemporary furniture for professionals and individuals. Wood carving becomes more and more important in his work. Today, the wood turning lathe is just used to rough-hew some pieces. Sébastien prefers carving directly the material in bigger pieces to create wall sculptures or wooden pieces of art.

Sébastien’s work inspires itself from nature and everything related to its texture.

Every year, Sébastien exhibits his art to the international salon of design and interior decoration, Maison & Objet Paris. Since 2009, Sébastien is also a member of Ateliers d’Art de France, the largest federation of craft professionals.
